Changing to a greener lifestyle is not easy. It takes commitment and effort, but the rewards are worth it and especially so because those rewards will benefit us now and our children and their children tomorrow. The trouble is that when we hear about changing to a greener lifestyle, we all know we should do it, but it is hard putting desire in to practice and actually learning what we can practically do to fight this problem. That’s why we’ve put together these tips which are both practical and easy to help you actually make the change to a greener lifestyle.

Reduce your plastic bag consumption

When shopping try to use alternatives to plastic bags. Paper bags can be reused and recycled. Cardboard boxes can also be reused and recycled and can carry much heavier loads. Turtle bags are also excellent, These are string bags that squash down to a tiny size when not in use but can expand to fit a huge amount of goods when needed. They’re called turtle bags because they were designed specifically not to be a danger to turtles when dumped in the sea. Many supermarkets offer reusable canvas bags which are eco-friendly and look cool.

Try and buy local

OK if you want oranges then let’s face it there are going to be a few food miles. Potatoes, peas, carrots and the like though can all be sourced locally. This helps the environment and helps to support local farmers and producers. Make sure your local suppliers use organic methods to produce their stuff though.

Do not standby

Appliances on standby use only fractionally less electricity than those in use. Before going to bed at night unplug everything and make sure it’s off. As well as helping the environment, this should also reduce your bills. There’s also a safety element to this as products on standby are more likely to short out and catch fire than those properly switched off.

Turn down your heating

Turning down your heating by just a few degrees can significantly reduce your gas consumption. This helps the environment and saves you money.

Think about solar

If you’re ready to take a bigger step, then why not consider fitting solar panels to your home? Solar panels can be used to produce electricity or hot water. Electricity can either be used in the home or sold on to the national grid.

These places are sometimes located near the mountains with the local population often working in the tourism industry. Many arrangements are made by the governments of different countries in order to make these places full of facilities in order to attract tourists. Many tourist operators and holiday providers are recognising the importance of eco tourism and the increased social responsibility of potential holiday makers.

All the arrangements of the tour are done by the company and tourists are required to make the payment to the company for their services.
Greenery is by nature good for health and it is good for humans to live in greenery in order to be saved from many problems of bad atmosphere. Due to the increases in technology and industries the life has become far from the natural ways of living. Greenery is very rare at the most advanced places of the world.
People are very busy in their routine lives that they have no time for their health. They have the time of holidays when they can plan to go to a place which is different from their routine life.
In November 2009 e-mails were stolen from East Anglia University which appeared to show scientists berating sceptics in sometimes intensely personal attacks, discussing ways to shield their data from public records laws, and discussing ways to keep skeptics’ research out of peer-reviewed journals. One that attracted particular media attention was Jones’ reference to a “trick” that could be used to “hide the decline” of temperatures.

The second investigation into the ‘Climategate’ scandal is due to be released at the beginning of July after the initial committee hearing largely vindicated the scientists. but we would like to know if you the public feel that global warming has been exaggerated.

Mexico is a Spanish speaking country located just south of the United States of America. It is the richest country in Latin America.

Whilst the country’s capital, Mexico City, is one of the most congested and polluted cities in the world, city officials are hoping to create a much greener urban metropolis.

Every Sunday, Mexico City converts one of its main avenues, Paseo de la Reforma, into a pedestrian, cyclist, and skaters-only thoroughfare. Along this route, the city offers free bike rentals and staffs hydration stations, mechanics’ kiosks, and even provides medical services. If you want to enjoy the action first-hand, why not rent a Segway PT for a few hours? These two-wheeled, self-balancing electric vehicles are available to hire for just £35 and have a zero-emissions rating.

Take a trip to the Bosque de Chapultepec (Chapultepec Forest), the country’s answer to New York’s Central Park. The Bosque boasts an expansive green space consisting of waterways, monuments, sculpture and a botanical garden.

Escape from the bustle of city life at The Red Tree House hotel. Choose an exclusive penthouse suite or go eco-friendly in your very own garden house terrace hideaway.

According to the latest reports from World Tourism Organization, Mexico has one of the largest tourism industries in the world. Hot-spots for visitors include; Pico de Orizaba, Palanque, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico City, Guadalajara and Baja California.

Those travelling to Mexico should bear in mind that it has one of the world’s most diverse weather systems. Due to its tropical location, the country has a highland climate. The Tropic of Cancer divides the country into temperate and tropical zones. The Mexican north experiences cooler temperatures during the winter months. The southern part of the country has fairly constant temperatures throughout the year.

Around 1100 people who die each year from lung cancer could actually be the victims of radon gas poisoning in their homes.

A report produced by the Food and Environmental Research Agency (FERA) highlighted the surprising number of deaths caused by the odourless, tasteless gas, which collects in the basement of buildings in areas of the United Kingdom.

In certain parts of Ireland, the study found that the levels of naturally occurring radon could emit radiation equivalent to having an incredible ten X-rays per day.

Radon accounts for 3.3 per cent of all lung cancer deaths recorded in the UK.

Thankfully, the cost of protecting homes from radon gas is relatively inexpensive and prevention kits are fairly easy to fit.

As long as rooms are ventilated and there is good air circulation, radon gas should not necessarily be a significant issue.

Detection kits are now available from the Health Protection Agency. The devices need to be installed and gases measured over a period of 3 months.

Very few purchasers of properties realise that radon is an important consideration; by protecting your home, you are far less likely to fall victim to this silent killer.

The production of beer could help to prevent climate change, a top scientist has suggested.

Dr David Richards of Vivergo Fuels has demonstrated how an old technology might mitigate the effects of climate change, manufacturing beer in the process.

Vivergo hopes to adapt the American inventor Henry Ford’s concept of running cars on bioethanol instead of petrol, to the process of beer production.

Vivergo’s refinery is being built on the north east Lincolnshire coastline.

The fermentation process will create 500,000 tonnes of animal feed and 420 million litres of bioethanol. It is thought that mixing this product with petrol will help offset the damage caused by fossil fuels.

Manufacturers hope that no waste will be created, as even the carbon emissions produced will be absorbed by the nearby crops as they grow.

The technological development has been hailed as an encouraging move for a region which is increasingly leading the world’s quest for renewable energies.

Lincolnshire is famous for its wide range of brewing companies, so there should be no shortage of volunteers if a job of ‘Master Brewer’ becomes available at the plant.

With energy prices undoubtedly set to rise in 2010, it is certainly the optimum time to start shopping around for a better gas and electricity supplier.

But it can seem like a lot of effort to switch any suppliers, not to mention actually making the right choice.

There are over fifteen energy suppliers to choose from in the UK, of which the most well-known include; Eon, British Gas, Scottish and Southern Energy, nPower and Scottish power. In addition to these established brands, a new company has just entered the market; OVO.

If you are looking to switch energy suppliers, you need to bear in mind more than just the price. In the fight against climate change, we should all consider ‘going green’ when it comes to our energy supply. It may not always be the cheapest option, but it will undoubtedly contribute to the long-term effort of sustaining the environment.

Less carbon emissions means less waste; and a more eco-friendly way of generating electricity.

Energy suppliers offer green tariffs through methods such as:

Sourcing or generating electricity through renewable means including wind, solar power or hydro-electric schemes.

Offering green tariffs by investing all or a percentage of the consumer’s bill into green energy schemes and green technology development.

There are many website which offer free searching, comparison and switching services. Normally you are required to enter your postcode as well as information relating to your existing supplier. After completing these details, you will be confronted with a list of suppliers based on the type of tariff you are looking for i.e. a greener alternative to the usual.

When looking for a green tariff, it is really important to do your research, as some will be a lot more expensive than your usual package.

With people becoming increasingly eco-aware, green tariffs are only going to grow in popularity. It is essential that green energy tariffs become the norm rather than the exception if we are to curb the amount of carbon being pumped into the atmosphere by power stations.

We are beginning to face up to the fact that there is a challenge of epic proportions ahead if we are to overcome, manage and even begin to reverse the effects of anthropogenic climate change. In order to do this nations and companies the world over are having to begin the transition to carbon equilibrated state which in turn is spawning whole new industries within the environmental and energy sectors. This explosion in green industries is reflected in the growing amount if investment potential in these sectors.

Green investments are no different to other types of investment in that they exist as exchange trade funds, stock and shares as with any investment sector. The only difference is that the commodity or business being invested in has operations involved with environmental improvement in some capacity. This very open ended definition is often interpreted into a number of specific areas.

For the stock orientated investor a green investment can simply be the trading of shares within a new start up businesses developing new technologies such as generating energy from landfill sites or it can be investing in new arms of existing traded companies that are expanding in to the new green sectors.

However in reality the definition of green investment is not quite as clear as indicated above and is often a topic of hot debate. While one trader may consider that investing in an oil refining company which has industry leading green acumen is a green investment many would argue that the fact that the primary business operations of the oil company are environmentally degrading means that it was not a green investment at all.

Until such point that a scheme of green certification is introduced into green investments whether an investment is environmentally sound or not becomes a matter of personal decision and for this reason it is considered wise to thoroughly research any company you may be thinking of investing in to check that it is synchronous with your ideas of what a green investment should be.

Thinking about transport is one of the best ways to make a big difference in the reduction of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere. Emissions from driving cars are one of the main contributors to green house gases. While it is always better to use public transport it is possible to drive more efficiently and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide you and your car produce.
Sensible driving is not only safer but better for the environment. Changing gear when your engine is revving at 2500 rpm for petrol and 2000 rpm for diesel will reduce the demand of the engine for fuel and reduce the amount of exhaust fumes being created. Drive smoothly through gradual acceleration and braking also is more efficient and saves on fuel. Trying to reduce your overall speed not only keeps you on the right side of speed limits but also decreases fuel consumption.

Avoid the desire to warm the car’s engine up before setting out on a journey as this is unnecessary in modern cars and only wastes fuel. If you find yourself stuck in traffic don’t hesitate to turn the engine off. It is a misconception that starting a modern car uses extra fuel.

Efficient green driving is not just about how you drive but also planning before you set out. This is perhaps not an issue if you are doing a journey you know well such as commute but it may still be worth checking that you are going the most efficient way. Try and avoid known traffic black spots. If driving to an unfamiliar location be sure to have clear directions of the journey you need to take so you don’t waste time and fuel looking for the intended destination.

Regular checks of your tyres to maintain pressure will ensure your tyres do not be under inflated which is not only dangerous but reduces fuel efficiency significantly. Have your car regularly serviced so that it is running as efficiently as possible from a mechanical point of view. Lastly do not use rood racks, bike carriers to roof top boxes as this increases the amount of drag on the car by decreasing its aerodynamics which in turn increases the amount of fuel needed.
