Washing machines heat water and this requires a lot of energy on every cycle. Using detergent designed to be used a lower temperatures will reduce the demand for electricity and therefore be better for the environment by reducing your carbon footprint.

| Washing or Laundry refers to the activity of washing clothes and similar materials or to the place where it is usually done in domestic or commercial establishments. In earlier days, we can see that washing was done in water courses so as to utilize the ability of flowing water to remove dirt and grease from fabric materials. This method is still followed in rural areas of many countries of the world. Man has always known that apart from the effect of flowing water, agitation is another technique that will help in cleansing fabric. In traditional settings, this agitation is effected by the use of wooden bats or clubs that would beat the dirt out. The same principle can be applied by also rubbing, twisting and slapping the clothes against flat rocks.
Washing in modern times is usually accomplished inside a washing machine by the application of various chemicals the most common being the detergent powder or soap. Many of such chemicals work by increasing the solvent power of water. The appliance washing machine also has evolved over the years since its innovation. The cleaning process is usually followed by another one in which the water content in them is removed to the maximum possible extent before letting them dry in the sun.
